SMTP (* administrator only)
To enable SMTP:
- Tick Enable SMTP to deliver and receive mails.
- Select your Mail Server account type from the Account Type drop-down menu. The default account type for local users is Local. If domain/LDAP is enabled on the DiskStation, you can also choose domain/LDAP.
- If Enable SMTP Authentication is ticked, you need to provide your DiskStation user account and password for authentication when setting SMTP server for mail clients aside from Mail Station.
- Take Outlook Express for example, you can enable the option at My server requires authentication in Tools > Accounts > Mail Account > Properties > Servers. It is recommended that you enable this option to avoid being a Spammer.
- Limit email size by specifying Maximum size per email.
- If Enable SMTP-SSL is ticked, SSL secure connection will be supported when sending emails.
- If Enable SMTP-TLS is ticked, TLS secure connection will be supported when sending emails.
- If Ignore authorization for LAN connections is ticked, all connections except for LAN connections will have to provide user account and password for authentication.
To enter a domain name for Mail Server:
Fill in the Domain name field. If you would like to set a user's mail address as user@synology.com, then you need to specify the Domain name as synology.com.
To configure multiple domain names on Mail Server:
You can map multiple domain names to Mail Server (e.g. synology.com, synology.com.tw, and synology.com.us) and allow users to receive mail sent to various addresses (e.g. user@synology.com, user@synology.com.tw, or user@synology.com.us).
- Click the Additional Domain button to open the setting window.
- Click the Create button to add a domain name.
- Click the Edit button to edit a domain name.
- Click the Delete button to delete domain names.
To send mails via other SMTP Relay server:
Most ISPs block or reject mails from unknown domains. If you cannot send mails directly from your own domain, you may have to send them through well-known SMTP servers. You can configure SMTP Relay server on your Mail Server.
- Click SMTP Relay.
- Tick Enable SMTP Relay.
- Specify SMTP Server name and Port.
- Tick Always use a secure connection to provide encrypted connections when relaying mails.
If Authentication required is ticked, you need to provide account and password for SMTP Relay server to authenticate your mail server.
